   Hello Maplefolks,
Well with the changing of the seasons come the new Fall fashions, and joy
of joys it seems as if calico has suddenly become the new black! Uh huh,
the Toronto traditional country music scene has been given its due not once
but twice in the papers this week. Monday's Toronto Star featured a story
("Twang's the thang" by Murray Whyte) that pulled quotes from Dan Kershaw,
Chris Quinn, Scotty Campbell and yours truly. Seems as if irony has been
supplanted by sincerity amongst the hip set (at least for the next couple of
months) according to Mr. Whyte. A couple of days pass and then today's
National Post runs an article on our new Corps Hall show ("A Grand Ole' Good
Time" by James Cowan) with a lovely picture to boot.
The accompanying photo (photographer unacknowledged, unfortunately) was
taken by no other than our own Mr. Travis Bird, whose images just keep
getting better and better. Thanks again Travis!
Whether this "new" new country will keep its newfound fans remains to be
seen. I do know for a fact that we've been able to hang on to our old
friends and fans as they get bumped into on the dance floor by these damn
kids that don't tuck in their shirts. If nothing else, it sure is nice to be
able to clip out some pages and send them up home to the folks. And Pop
always told me that Toronto was never much of a city for country music!
  Warm Regards,
  Colonel Tom
